I just got Fluxbuntu Linux which is based in Ubuntu 7.10. After setting up my applications, downloading some muzak, and coming to the conclusion that there's a reason linux elitists are elitists, I set up my Wifi, which wasn't as hard as people say.
Anyone else use alternative OS's? By alt, I mean not Windows and not Mac.

Im running Linux on my PC, I have a three way boot. With Vista 64 bit, Linux, and XP 64 bit. I know all about what your taking about. I built my PC. Its got a AMD Athlon 64 x2 OC to 3.4 ghz, 6 gigs of G.Skill DDR2 800 RAM, 4 TB drives in RAID 0+1 config, 8x 120 mm fans. And a 8800GT OCX all wraped up in a Raidmax Smilodon case

I play games. And it costed me alot! Im getting a new video card. ATI's new 4870x2 card. Looks amazing and the price is worth it. I got some old AGP cards. Maybe you should do an upgrade to your PC. Might cost money, but a good PC makes me happy.

This is all i get: "Im running ... on my PC, I have a three way boot. With Vista 64 bit, ... and XP 64 bit. I know all about what your talking about. I built my PC. So i don't even bother to understand, but it's probably something about computers...

Ah yes, the discussion of a dead operating system that about half of the PC gaming world doesn't even fully understand.

    Good choice!

dead operating system? Linux is growing in popularity, not diminishing.
Also, what are you talking about gamers for, this is a thread about an OS.

Though, you CAN game on Linux, quite well through Wine actually. Better than XP in my experience.

    That's the problem.

Linux is good only for servers. For the rest of the PC world which is software AND gaming based, Windows and even Apple is the better way to go.

"I love talking about non windows operating systems. It turns me on in a sexual way." Nillerz, that scares me, altough it gives me the lulz. U reminded me of one dude at my school who always says: "Your moms got a penis."

No, Macs will never ever ever ever ever ever ever be better for gaming htan a Linux bux. You can get windows games running on linux. That's amazing. Windows machines are slower due to overhead when compared to my Fluxbuntu box which will run well with 48 MB of ram. I have 380 mb of ram and Linux will run a game, not just a server, swell. I don't even know what the Mac equivilant of DirectX or OpenGL is.

I love Linux! I love Vista! I hate Apple's OS. I use Linux to run my servers for Counter Strike and a web site my friend runs for his CSS and Day of Defeat:Source Clan. Vista has a great platform. You can run programs like they were in XP Service Pack 3 machine. If you have the hardware for Vista 64bit. Got for it. Its great, if not then stay with XP. But in 3-4 years, Microsoft is going to release a new a new OS. I forgot the name, but its going to have the same responce Vista got in the begning. That it sucks, but so did XP when it was first released. So bottom line i that Linux is not dead and can be used for great things, and that Vista kicks ass.

I haven't used vista, I've always considered its negative perception as a compliment to XP.
    Linux is kicking ass IMO.

Overwhelming? Did I not just compliment Windows XP and say that Vista didn't suck?
