I've been seeing lots of threads that include posts like these:
>Cool >... >lol >Sweet
These would be fine if this were a chatroom, but this is a forum. You have all the time in the world to answer, the reader isn't going to go anywhere. What happens when this happens is the topic maker or people interested in the topic come on, see "new post" colors, and check the threads to see if someone has inputted on the topic in a significant way. It greatly annoys almost everyone when they see posts like that. In order to make it worthwhile, actually read the thread, and respond like this >That's neat, I never actually used that program, what is it like? Note that response had a question, leaving room for other people to answer in a meaningful way. This is how discussion works, someone says something, someone comments, and asks a question to keep it going. If someone posts and you comment without actually bringing anything to the table, you may effectively kill the topic. Worse, if you don't effect it in a positive way you could start a flamewar.
So please put a little thought into your posts, thanks.
Actually, i've noticed that in a different way on my website. I might have 32 comments, but all it really is is people talking to each other and not really commenting on my post. For exaple: "Oh dude, you left your hat at my place." I find this really anoying.
And now by making my post longer than by writing "sweet", i seem to be following Nillerz on his thought :)
